How does Roommate Matching work at UGA

Typically, student apartment communities offer matching services that are simple and easy to use for their residents. Simply fill out a questionnaire to be matched with a fellow student with similar interests. One question that you could typically expect on the questionnaire include your sleep schedule. Some people are night owls, some are early risers, this really matters when living with roommates. You do not want to be woken up by your roommate if you have later classes, and vice versa. You may be asked to list your extracurriculars on the questionnaire as well. If you share similar extracurricular activities as your roommate, it really helps build a friendship. Something you can do outside of the apartment is important to maintain a healthy and happy living situation.

Pet ownership is included on almost all questionnaires if the apartment community is pet friendly. If you list that you have a dog or a cat, you may be matched with a fellow resident with an animal. Be sure to say if your pet is not comfortable around other animals to avoid awkward situations that could arise. If you are a very social person, be sure to include this in the questionnaire for your apartment community. Some people may not enjoy having guests over frequently, so to better match with someone like you include your social habits. Obviously, humans are not completely explained on a simple questionnaire, however, they can definitely match applicants on similar responses to create a higher chance of a stable living situation. After completing your application, and getting matched with your roommates for the next school, try to get to know them before moving in. Showing that you are making an effort will lead to a better relationship off the bat upon move in.
