About Health Sciences Campus
The campus was used from 1891 to 1932 as Georgia's first teacher college known as the State Normal School. The historical center is now named in honor of the school in Athens' Normaltown district. A series of federal closures of bases allowed the University of Georgia to convert the site into what we know today as Health Sciences Campus. In 2012 the first classes were held by the College of Public Health and now more than 900 students are enrolled at the school. The first department to call Health Sciences home was the department of epidemiology and biostatistics. The campus is a fully functioning facility with housing, a library, recreational activities, food services and places for research and development. Located on the Health Sciences campus include Rhodes Hall which holds the administrative offices of the College of Public Health, along with the Dean's office, Office of Research and Office of Outreach. B.S. Miller Hall is located across Buck Road and is the home of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. Wright Hall is the Development of Health Policy and Management's home, and Hudson Hall holds the Institute of Gerontology. The campus is expansive with over 200 faculty and has more than thirty million in current funding. Health Sciences is the cornerstone of the University of Georgia with its student body and research funding.
