Furnished Apartments in Athens, GA

Furnished Apartments

If you are looking for an apartment, you might want to think about narrowing your search to furnished apartments in Athens. Most student-friendly apartment communities near the University of Georgia will have a furniture package. This is mostly so students don't have to buy all the furniture needed for their apartment. Some communities will come fully furnished, while others like luxury apartments might have a package you can add on to your lease.

Pros of Furnished Apartments near UGA

Having an already furnished apartment is extremely helpful for UGA students. In the hot Athens summer, you don't want to have to carry in a whole couch when moving in, or a bed frame. There are also so many fun locations to live in Athens, like Five Points or downtown, so you probably won't be living in the same place during your undergrad. Trying to find furniture that will stay with you for four plus years is not easy, because not all student apartments are the same. Living in UGA furnished apartments allows you to wait to buy big ticket furniture items until you move into a more long-term place. Already furnished apartments are becoming a lot more common in Athens, so if that is an option you like there will be plenty to look at.

What usually comes in a Furnished Apartment?

The furniture that comes with your apartment can differ in the different communities, but here are a few basics you can use for reference.

In your bedroom:

  • Bed frame
  • Mattress
  • Dresser/Chest of drawers
  • Desk
  • Desk chair

In the common room/kitchen:

  • Couch
  • Lounge chair (the number is dependent on space)
  • Coffee table
  • TV
  • Unit for under the TV
  • Breakfast table w/chairs
  • Bar stools if you have an island

*furniture for a porch or balcony isn't as common but can be found in a few communities.

What other furniture should you consider bringing?

While a furniture package will give you the basics for your UGA apartment, there are other things you should consider bringing. Apartments with elevators will make it much easier to bring your furniture to your room. If you think you will be spending a lot of time at your desk, you might want to bring a more comfortable chair. Usually, the chair given is the bare minimum and not comfortable for long periods. If you have a balcony, you might want to bring a chair or two and a table out there. Then you can do homework or watch the sunset on your balcony. If you think you need more storage, bring another chest or just a stack of drawers. This can be helpful in your closet, where you may have plenty of hanging space but not as much space for folded clothes. Lastly is some sort of nightstand or side table for a lamp and to put your phone on at night!
