How should I pack to make moving into my UGA apartment easy?

Moving into places like The Connection at Athens, it is wise to have lots of carryable items as you will likely have to go up steps into your unit.

When moving into your UGA apartment, you want to make it as easy as possible, whether you have a move-in team of 10 or just yourself. Most UGA students will drive to Athens because it is easier than shipping your belongings. If you are moving furniture as well, you will most likely need 1 or 2 more people to help you. It is a good idea to have your parents or guardian there to help you, especially if they are your guarantor. However, be careful about having too many people helping with your move-in, especially in smaller apartments this can hinder you more than help.

Bags, Boxes, and More

When moving in, you want to try to consolidate as much of your stuff as possible in bags or boxes. You can buy moving boxes from most hardware stores for a few cents, or collect them over the few months before you move in. Once you realize how many trips you'll have to make to the car, eliminating a few boxes will be a lifesaver. Also, make use of whatever bags or suitcases you are bringing. That might seem obvious, but when you are surrounded by all the things you need to bring, you might end up forgetting. Duffel bags, suitcases, and tote bags can be filled to the brim. Trash bags are ok, if necessary, but it will be much harder to find stuff once you bring them all into the apartment. If you are bringing a rolling suitcase you can wrap up breakables with paper and bubble wrap and put them in there.

Kitchenware and Electronics

If you plan on packing a lot of kitchenware and electronics instead of buying them when you get to Athens, the best thing to do is keep them in the box. Things like dish sets, pans, TVs, and monitors will need to be packed up again when you move out, so it is best to keep those boxes anyways. Some apartments will have a storage closet on the balcony and/or inside the unit. This is a great spot to keep the boxes once you have unpacked them. If you have a longer or rougher drive than most, consider adding more bubble wrap to boxes with especially breakable things. Packing Efficiently

Most people will be able to get everything out of their car during their UGA apartment move-in, but it is a good idea to keep any necessities easily accessible. Same with packing, try to keep things you will need that day or night grouped so that you can unpack those first.
