Where are the best study spots at UGA?

The University of Georgia has one of the most beautiful campuses in the US. After becoming a Dawg, it would be such a waste if you did not spend as much time on campus as you can in your four years. Across UGA's sprawling campus there are countless places set up for students to use for studying. If you are struggling to find a quiet study space UGA offers an interactive map showing indoor, outdoor and covered study areas. Below I will go into more detail about some of student's favorite places to go cram for their next exam. Most off campus apartments near UGA also include study spaces like study rooms or computer labs with free printing!

Main Library

One of the most popular places to study on the University of Georgia campus, the main library, has seven floors of space to find a study spot. The first floor has plenty of desks with computers for student use, as well as open desks for your own laptop. It can get noisy on this floor, so bring headphones if you decide on this spot. There are also a few group study rooms, but be sure to schedule these because it is rare that you will find one happening to not be in use. The third through the sixth floor are much quieter with silent study areas throughout. The fourth floor has whiteboard and chalkboard columns, if you are looking to write out a study plan or math problem. The seventh floor is a favorite of a lot of students because of the stunning views of North Campus and Athens, and if the weather is just right you can see some mountains in the distance.

Zell B. Miller Learning Center

Zell B. Miller Learning Center, or the MLC as most students call it, is probably the most popular study spot on UGA campus. It is a four-floor facility full of everything you would need to study. The building is split between students studying and classes. There are countless study rooms, computers, desks, tables, and classrooms. One problem with the MLC is that, even if you get a study room, it can get noisy because of its popularity. I would steer clear and look elsewhere on midterm and finals weeks because it will be so packed and distracting. Outside of midterms and finals the MLC is perfect for group study sessions, or individual studying. It is open 24 hours, so do not worry if you need to do a real late night study session.

Tate Student Center

Tate is a popular spot for studying with multiple lounges and high-top tables. Because of its proximity to the restaurants, it is not a silent study space. Tate is a good place to meet for group projects and study sessions, not so much a place for some peace and quiet. Being at the heart of campus, it makes it a great place to study in between classes and grab a bite to eat at the same time. Tate Student Center closes at 12am, so if you need to pull an all-nighter head over to the MLC, which is right next door.

The State Botanical Garden of Georgia

If you want to get some fresh air while studying head over to the State Botanical Garden of Georgia at the University of Georgia. It is only three miles from downtown Athens. Pack a blanket or a hammock and set up by the Oconee River. Students love to walk the trails or read next to the Middle Oconee River. Next time you want a truly tranquil place to study, check it out.
